Land Value Rates
for Wellington

Wellington City Council is considering a transition to Land Value Rates this year. Find your ward, email your councillors, and ask them to support a fairer rating system.

Why this matters

Land Value Rates would shift the rating base off buildings and onto land. That means lower rates for 60% of Wellingtonians, particularly low income homeowners. It would reduce the penalty for improving the property and create a stronger incentive to use well-located land efficiently.
